Layreaders are in charge of the details of the service. Their ministry is to make
sure the services proceed without complications and errors and they assist in providing an atmosphere of reverence and holiness, free of distractions in the Sanctuary for the priest and the congregation. A Layreader is licensed by the Diocese and is able to officiate at scheduled services of Morning Prayer or Evening Prayer without the required presence of a Priest.
Lectors proclaim the lessons and lead the Prayers of the People during services of Holy Eucharist. These persons are volunteers from the congregation who have received practical training in reading the Scriptures at the Holy Eucharist and in the “Divine Offices: (Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, Compline, etc). A Lector is licensed by the parish.
